The park, located near a reservoir and high-end residences, required a design that would not disrupt the existing ecological experience. updesign responded with a low-contrast colored silhouette art effect, subtly integrating the signage system into the natural environment. The result is a "hidden" wayfinding system that guides visitors without detracting from the park's tranquil ambiance.
updesign's innovative approach to the signage system sets it apart from others. The signs, designed as impressionist-illustration silhouettes, create an eco-friendly aura that resonates with visitors. The concept of harmony between human and nature is reflected in the design, echoing both the artist's thoughts and the project's purpose.
The realization of the wayfinding sign boards required meticulous craftsmanship. The boards were handmade without any weldings or creases, necessitating high-quality metal materials with strong hardness and toughness. The boards were designed with friendly lower positions and rounded edges, allowing children to interact with them safely.
Technical specifications of the design include a stainless steel baking finish, a sign board size of 2200mmX520mmX90mm, and a sign board base of 700mmX800mmX600mm. The design process involved extensive art history research to select suitable illustration works for the silhouette style. The challenge lay in achieving a balance between craft effects and artistic style, and ensuring precision in the assembly of the sign boards.
The design was completed in April 2020 in Bao'an District, Shenzhen, Guangdong, China. It has since been awarded the Silver A' Design Award, a prestigious accolade given to designs that demonstrate outstanding expertise and innovation. The award recognizes designs that introduce positive feelings, amazement, and wonder, and Shenzhen's Jiangangshan Hill Park certainly fits the bill.
