Superlimao: A Vibrant and Sustainable Brand Identity

Creating a Visual Language that Reflects Superlimao's Architectural Philosophy

Superlimao, a Brazilian architecture firm known for its sustainable and innovative projects, has recently unveiled a brand identity that captures the essence of their creative approach. Designed by Ruis Vargas and his team at Laika Design, the new visual language combines sobriety with vibrant illustrations and patterns, reflecting Superlimao's commitment to contemporary architecture and respect for the environment.

To represent the aspects of the Superlimao brand, the design of the new logo was inspired by grotesque typography, creating a contrast with the colorful and surreal illustrations and patterns developed for the language project. This combination enhances the diversity of visual discourse and allows for the deconstruction of the logo's meaning in interaction with the images, reflecting Superlimao's constant reflection on architectural practice.

The Superlimao brand identity extends beyond traditional communication materials. The design includes business cards printed on heavyweight paper, stickers for envelope closures, institutional presentations, and posters. The posters, printed on lightweight offset paper, are meant to be glued to walls and sidings, serving as a visual manifesto for Superlimao and signaling their presence in the urban landscape.

The technical specifications of the design include a poster sheet format of 420 mm x 620 mm, printed in CMYK colors. The business cards are printed on 300 g offset paper, pasted to reach a weight of 600 g. The envelope stickers feature a matte couche finish and are also printed in CMYK colors.

The new brand and its visual identity elements not only fulfill their functional aspects of communication but also interact with the urban space. The posters, displayed on walls and sidings, spread messages about Superlimao's approach to architecture and urbanism. They also serve as a break from the dominant gray in the cityscape of Sao Paulo, where Superlimao is based.

The Superlimao brand identity project took place from February to June 2019 in Sao Paulo, Brazil. Laika Design, the creative team behind the design, employed their unique Laika method, which combines linguistic and pictorial skills to create small graphic narratives. This approach allowed for the creation of diverse visual narratives that reflect the daily communication needs and culture of the Superlimao brand.

Developing a brand and visual language that represents Superlimao's unique approach to architecture was a challenge. The design needed to balance irreverence and seriousness, reflecting the firm's ability to unite seemingly opposing attitudes. The resulting language project allows the brand to modulate its behavior, being both sober and expressive, depending on the communication context.

The Superlimao brand identity, created by Laika Design, is a testament to the firm's commitment to sustainable architecture and innovative design. It has received recognition for its creativity and resourcefulness, winning the Bronze A' Design Award in 2020. This prestigious award acknowledges designs that incorporate best practices in art, science, design, and technology, contributing to improvements in quality of life.
