This newly built single-story residence, located in Taoyuan City, Taiwan, presented a challenge with its fragmented and closed layout that did not meet the needs of the users. No.37 Studio took on the task of transforming the space into a harmonious and serene living environment.
The first step in the design process was to fine-tune the wall lines, including combining two rooms into one to create an L-shaped moving line that connects multiple sections of the master bedroom. This reconfiguration allowed for a more fluid and functional layout.
The design inspiration for Streamlined Arc came from the desire to create a soothing and visually appealing atmosphere. Many parts of the house, such as the ceiling, desks, glass doors in the dressing room, and full-length mirrors, were meticulously designed to incorporate streamlined arc shapes. These arcs not only add a touch of visual softness but also metaphorically represent the freedom of flying in the sky.
The realization of the design involved the use of various techniques and materials. The entryway floor features pattern tiles that not only add aesthetic appeal but also serve as a dust collection mechanism. The public area walls are painted with architectural concrete, creating a low-key grayscale texture that complements the furniture and soft decorations.
One of the unique features of Streamlined Arc is the customized circular arch vista in the entryway. This vista serves multiple functions, including lighting, storage for small objects and shoes, and even storage for luggage cases. The two-color mirror on the wall opposite the end view extends the depth of field and adds a sense of flexibility to the space.
In the kitchen area, the arc continues onto the surface that connects with the island. This built-in storage cleverly conceals the refrigerator and modifies the structural columns, eliminating the acute angles typically found in traditional cabinets. The study area features glass sliding doors that can fold into the modeling wall, maximizing space utilization.
The Streamlined Arc project was awarded the Bronze A' Design Award in 2022 in the Interior Space, Retail, and Exhibition Design category. This prestigious award recognizes designs that exhibit strong technical and creative skills, contributing to improvements in quality of life.
