Revolutionizing Surgical Imaging with IC100 Mobile 3D X-ray Fluoroscope

Peipei Zhang, Ze Chen, and Xuan Teng's Innovative Medical Device

Peipei Zhang, Ze Chen, and Xuan Teng have developed the IC100 Mobile 3D X-ray Fluoroscope, a groundbreaking medical device that is set to revolutionize surgical imaging. The device, which won the Silver A' Medical Devices and Medical Equipment Design Award in 2022, offers a unique solution to the challenges faced by orthopedic robots in operating rooms.

The IC100 Mobile 3D X-ray Fluoroscope was inspired by the need to improve the efficiency and safety of surgical procedures involving orthopedic robots. The team identified that the existing C-Arm, a crucial component of these robots, was not fit for purpose. The traditional C-Arm required an extra 15-step preoperative preparation process, which added to surgical time and increased patients' anesthesia risk. The large size of the existing dual-trolley C-Arm also affected surgeons' workspace, surgical results, and even surgical safety.

Zhang, Chen, and Teng's innovative design addresses these issues head-on. The IC100 is a portable X-ray device that captures video, still images, and 3D imaging during surgery. It integrates the C-Arm and workstation into a single cart, making it easier to move and saving valuable operating room space. The device also features an oversized opening, which fits more surgical scenarios, and a next-gen CMOS detector, which allows high image quality at low doses. The stand-alone image console allows for remote exposure, significantly reducing radiation damage.

One of the most impressive features of the IC100 is the SMART-LINK technology. This opens up interactions with the surgical robot, leading to a 73% reduction in workflow compared to the existing process. The device also auto-senses patient and robot position, auto-adjusts, and avoids collision, thanks to its depth camera. This makes the IC100 not just smarter, but also more agile and convenient than its predecessors.

The IC100 is also environmentally friendly. 70% of its materials can be recycled, including the plastic shell and metal structural parts. The device uses up to 25% recycled materials and utilizes recycled and reprocessed cartons and metal fasteners for transportation and fixation. The self-developed coating is self-healing and antibacterial, reducing the use of disposable sterile plastic bags and excessive disinfection during operation, thereby reducing medical waste.

The IC100 Mobile 3D X-ray Fluoroscope is a testament to the power of design and innovation in improving medical procedures. Its unique features and capabilities make it a game-changer in the field of surgical imaging. With this device, Zhang, Chen, and Teng have set a new standard for efficiency, safety, and environmental sustainability in the design of medical devices.
