Gift of Sun: A Modern Industrial Residence by Hsin Huang

Integrating Style and Affordability

Initially, the clients found their construction team to conduct the project, however, the design team took over the mission because the clients found that the result was not as expected during the process. The clients expect to integrate the existing design and their desired style into one, so the design team takes the style provided by the client to make a more suitable transformation. At the same time, the clients can enjoy a quality atmosphere at an affordable budget.

The "Gift of Sun" residence, designed by Hsin Huang, is a unique and innovative project that seamlessly blends style and affordability. The design team took over the mission from the construction team when the clients realized that the result was not meeting their expectations. With the goal of integrating the existing design with the clients' desired style, the design team embarked on a transformation that would create a quality atmosphere within a reasonable budget.

One of the standout features of this residence is the cabinet next to the TV wall, which was designed by the clients themselves. By using different materials and colors, such as partitions, the visual effect is made more vivid and the proportion more harmonious. Additionally, the design team employed black grooves of fine lines on the ceiling to create a division, reducing the proportion of beams in the space and creating a more harmonious visual effect in the master bedroom.

The construction materials used in the "Gift of Sun" residence include laminate flooring, iron parts, glass, moru glass, cement special coating, wood grain, grille system cabinets, floor tiles, and curved artificial stone. The wall behind the sofa is specially coated with cement special paint, creating a natural cement texture and the aesthetic of architectural concrete. Not only does this present the industrial style preferred by the clients, but it also offers numerous benefits such as being odorless, formaldehyde-free, scratch-resistant, and crack-resistant, making it an eco-friendly and durable building material.

The interior of the "Gift of Sun" residence spans a total area of 92.5 square meters and features three bedrooms, a living room, and a dining room. The design team made some adjustments to the original layout to better suit the clients' needs. For instance, one of the rooms was transformed into a dressing room, enlarging the master bedroom. The kitchen area was also reduced in size, with an appliance cabinet added for storage. The remaining room can be used flexibly as a study room, guest room, or future children's room, and is supplemented with a couch to enhance flexibility.

Designed for a couple, the "Gift of Sun" residence offers spaces that cater to their preferences. The living room and master bedroom are their favorite areas, and the design reflects this. In the living room, storage is concentrated in the cabinetry next to the TV wall, creating a minimalist style. Both the dressing room and the master bedroom feature a desk, allowing the couple to each occupy a corner and enjoy a relaxing time for both business and leisure.

The "Gift of Sun" residence was completed in April 2021 in Taiwan. Throughout the design process, the team conducted extensive research to ensure that the final result met the clients' expectations. The theme of the design revolves around gray tones, with black iron parts adding an industrial touch. Simple lines were used to create a modern aesthetic. The large area of cabinets in the living room was modified with a grille to reduce the sense of visual oppression and increase flexibility. Additionally, the cabinets are suspended to create a sense of lightness. Drawers were also added under the guest bedroom couch, providing additional storage space and flexibility in room usage.

The "Gift of Sun" residence presented several challenges for the design team. Taking over the clients' original design and incorporating their specific style preferences required time and careful consideration. The team also had to work within the limitations of the existing space and the clients' budget. Despite these challenges, the design team successfully retained the essence of the original design while creating a space that fulfilled the clients' needs and desires.

The "Gift of Sun" residence is a testament to the beauty of simplicity and pure aesthetics. From the entrance, the space is enveloped in various shades of gray, creating subtle visual changes. The TV wall and the wall behind the sofa feature light, medium, and dark shades of gray as the base, adorned with different materials to shape a sense of space. Despite the large area of gray, the space never feels oppressive, thanks to the thoughtful design choices.

The "Gift of Sun" residence by Hsin Huang is a remarkable example of how design can seamlessly blend style and affordability. By integrating the clients' desired style with the existing design, the design team has created a unique and inviting space that meets the clients' needs and budget. This project has been recognized for its excellence, receiving the Iron A' Design Award in the Interior Space, Retail, and Exhibition Design category in 2023. This prestigious award is a testament to the well-designed, practical, and innovative nature of the "Gift of Sun" residence.
