Chao Zheng's Black and White Dialectics: A Masterpiece of Residential Design

Unveiling the Award-winning Design that Marries Ancient Philosophy with Modern Aesthetics

Chao Zheng's Black and White Dialectics, a residential house design that draws inspiration from the most basic geometric figures and the ancient Chinese philosophy of "round sky and place," has won the Silver A' Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design Award in 2023. This article delves into the unique properties, design realization technology, and the inspiration behind this masterpiece.

Chao Zheng, the chief designer, embarked on this project in April 2020 in Quanzhou and brought it to completion in October 2022. The project spans a total of 1400 square meters. The design concept, "between square and circle," is a reflection of thousands of years of Chinese cultural history and an ancient and simple philosophy. The designer has skillfully applied this concept to space design using pure design techniques.

The Black and White Dialectics project stands out for its use of natural light, which is not only the perfect expression of space art but also the best comfort for people's emotional perception. The designer has applied natural light in a way that communicates with nature directly, using an extremely gentle narrative technique that cures the onlookers.

The main materials used in this project are slate, stone, and artistic lacquer. These simple materials are constructed with contemporary techniques, creating a contrast of texture that enhances the design expressive force of the space and creates rich levels and changes. The delicacy of the wooden floor is combined with the concrete mechanism of the rock climbing wall, adding to the uniqueness of the design.

One of the design challenges was the shape of the stairs, which is an extension of light on the facade. This plays the role of diffusing natural light into the interior, strengthening the texture of materials, and showing the richness and novelty of space. The space is full of vitality and light, with continuous vaults appearing repeatedly in the same style, forming a curved artistic expression of space.

Under the macro vision of nature architecture human, designers integrate the concept of organic architecture, paying attention to the suitability and health of the physical environment of buildings such as wind, light, heat, sound, and water, and the microclimate. This project achieves the architectural design of harmonious and sustainable development of nature and people, which is a testament to the designer's commitment to sustainable design.

The Black and White Dialectics project is a testament to Chao Zheng's innovative approach to design, blending ancient philosophy with modern aesthetics to create a residential space that is not only visually stunning but also deeply rooted in cultural history. The project's success is a testament to the power of design to transcend boundaries and create spaces that are both functional and beautiful.
