Asia's premier fashion event, Centrestage, has always been a beacon for the latest in Asian fashion trends. The 2022 edition, under the creative direction of Dury Chin, took this a step further by integrating the concepts of Inclusion and Diversity into its core. This theme resonated throughout the event, encouraging visitors to embrace their unique identities through fashion. The event's design was a testament to the power of self-expression, providing a platform for diverse fashion brands to showcase their work.
The Centrestage 2022 event space spanned an impressive 6665 m2, designed to serve multiple functions. It was not only the venue for the opening reception and fashion presentations but also an immersive introductory experience area. The design's strength lay in its multifunctionality, which was achieved through a combination of cutting-edge technology and sustainable materials. The space featured a Naked eyes LED wall, dual-layered circular LED screens, and an interactive game column, all prefabricated to ensure a swift 3-day setup.
Technological innovation was at the forefront of Centrestage's design. The entrance boasted a 6mW x 3.5mH Naked eyes curved LED screen, creating an illusion of depth and dimensionality. The interior space was equally impressive, with circular LED screens and a spherical screen suspended above a semi-glossy platform. Interactive columns and a vast LED wall at the rear added to the event's futuristic ambiance. The design team's commitment to sustainability was evident in the use of biodegradable carpets and reusable materials throughout the space.
The interactive elements of Centrestage 2022 were a highlight, offering visitors a glimpse into the metaverse. A large curved LED screen, in collaboration with Microsoft, allowed attendees to experience augmented reality, while the dual-layered LED screens provided a perfect backdrop for selfies. The event's multifunctional areas served as platforms for mini fashion parades, branding events, and presentations, ensuring that every corner of the space was an opportunity for engagement and discovery.
Centrestage 2022's design was not only a spatial marvel but also a narrative of diversity and inclusion in fashion. The event's research focused on showcasing a wide array of fashion perspectives, thereby challenging stereotypes and promoting dialogue on inclusive design practices. Overcoming the challenge of translating these lofty concepts into a cohesive spatial design, the team succeeded in creating a virtual fashion show that was both interactive and memorable.
The event, which ran from September 9-11, 2022, at the Hong Kong Conference and Exhibition Centre, was a culmination of three months of meticulous planning and execution. It was a testament to the power of collaboration, with the HKTDC Creative Department playing a pivotal role in its success. The Silver A' Design Award in Event and Happening Design is a fitting accolade for Centrestage 2022, recognizing its innovation, expert execution, and the remarkable experience it offered to visitors.
