Human Haus Tp: A Tapestry of Textiles and Tones

Minusplus Design Weaves Innovation into Retail Space

Discover the artistry behind the award-winning Human Haus Tp, a retail space that transcends traditional shopping experiences through its unique design and concept.

Minusplus Design, known for their innovative approach to architectural spaces, has recently completed Human Haus Tp, a clothing store that doubles as a beverage haven. This project stands out as a testament to the brand's commitment to supporting local indie designers by providing a platform that not only showcases their creations but also fosters a connection between the consumer and the diverse styles on display. The design team's inspiration stemmed from the commonality of textiles, envisioning the space as a blank canvas—a raw piece of fabric waiting to be transformed.

The store's design is characterized by its pastel color palette, predominantly elegant beige, which creates a serene atmosphere conducive to shopping. This simplicity is intentional, steering clear of excessive materials and overt marketing, allowing the garments themselves to capture the spotlight. The clever use of curves and lighting delineates different emotional zones within the store, guiding customers on a journey through the space. Double routes add to the store's functionality, offering a terrace for varied pathways and a relay area that leaves a lasting impression of the brand.

Minusplus Design has embraced stone paint, a water-based solution, for its eco-friendly properties and its ability to mimic the texture of fabric. This choice reflects a conscious move away from the overly polished aesthetics prevalent in fashion today, instead celebrating the natural and the authentic. The paint's fine texture and shading effect contribute to the store's unique ambiance, reminiscent of a naturally cut cloth.

The 115.7 square meter space, originally a 40-year-old building, has been meticulously reimagined. The design team deconstructed and reorganized the area, assigning each volume a specific function within the store. A continuous curve links the fitting room and sofa area, providing privacy and comfort. The curved wall outside the fitting room creates a circular route, subtly influencing the shopping experience and offering a sense of security to customers as they explore.

Human Haus Tp is more than a store; it's an interactive experience. The design ensures that each corner of the space has its own distinctive character, from the outdoor terrace to the semi-outdoor relay area and the interior. The owner appreciates the strategic placement of blank spaces between cabinets, which not only facilitates movement but also highlights the clothing's features. This project embodies the brand's ethos of elegance, joy, and sophistication, inviting customers to enjoy a quality life through the garments they choose.

Completed in September 2022 in Taiwan, Human Haus Tp is the culmination of a design process that sought to embody the brand's essence and foster a connection between the space and its purpose. The design team's research focused on creating a platform for indie designers, allowing them to shine in a space that mirrors the versatility and texture of fabric. The challenge lay in accommodating the brand's diverse range, requiring a space that was not only comfortable but also inclusive of various styles and expressions.

The design's success is evident in the details, from the unadorned ceiling that plays with light and shadow to the stone-painted walls that invite touch and exploration. Linear lighting and strategically placed curves throughout the space guide the eye and create a narrative within the store. This thoughtful design has not gone unnoticed, as Human Haus Tp was honored with the Bronze A' Design Award in the Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design category in 2024, a recognition of the project's creativity and contribution to enhancing the quality of life.
