Marcelo Lopes Design Celebrates 10 Years of Emar Batalha with a Unique Catalog

The wooden box, inspired by the trays used by jewelers to display their pieces, is divided into two sections. The first section showcases sketches of ten pieces of jewelry, while the second section contains a sixty-eight-page book narrating the visual trajectory of the pieces designed over the past decade. The colored pages, inspired by tropicalia, deviate from the traditional white background seen in most jewelry books.

The catalog and its wooden case are designed to be timeless, with the use of textures, contrasts, and materials that digital manufacturing resources cannot exploit. The catalog is more than just a book; it is a testament to the art and design created in the first quarter of the twenty-first century. It is expected to remain in perfect condition, serving as a live witness of our times.

The wooden case, made from Imbuia wood, has the logo laser cut in relief. The book features a sensorial cover using special paper and hot-stamping print, with special pages using dry cut and crease. The satin lace detail with the logo in golden metal adds a touch of elegance. The entire creation project took six months, from February to July 2012, with the event held in August 2012.

Creating the wooden box presented a challenge due to the need for a handmade touch, a high-quality finish, and the use of reforestation wood. The boxes were handmade, and size variations had to be taken into account to ensure the books fit perfectly without any leftover space. Despite these challenges, the team managed to successfully produce the wooden box.

The catalog has been recognized for its design excellence, winning the Golden A' Graphics, Illustration and Visual Communication Design Award in 2013. This prestigious award is granted to marvelous, outstanding, and trendsetting creations that reflect the designer's prodigy and wisdom. It is a testament to the innovative design and the timeless vision of art encapsulated in the catalog.
