Renowned designer Katsumi Tamura, known for his innovative approach to everyday objects, has once again pushed the boundaries of design with his latest creation - 'Flowers'. This three-dimensional calendar, which won the prestigious Golden A' Design Award in 2014, is more than a simple date tracker. It is a functional piece of art that brings the beauty of seasonal flowers into your living space.
The inspiration for 'Flowers' is universal - the timeless allure of flowers. Tamura's design features a vase with 12 different flowers, each representing a month of the year. The idea is to 'bring in the seasons' and 'brighten your life each month with a seasonal flower'. The result is a calendar that not only keeps track of dates but also adds a touch of nature to your room decor.
What sets 'Flowers' apart from other calendars is its unique properties. Tamura believes that quality designs have the power to modify space and transform the minds of its users. They offer the comfort of seeing, holding, and using. They are imbued with lightness and an element of surprise, enriching space. 'Flowers' is a testament to this belief, designed using the concept of 'Life with Design'.
Measuring 192mm (H) x 76mm(W) x 22(D)mm, 'Flowers' is compact yet impactful. The design project was launched in July 2013 and has since been appreciated for its innovative approach to combining form and function. The design team, led by Art Director Katsumi Tamura, included Designer Takahiro Sugawara and Copywriter Toshiyuki Nagamatsu.
The Golden A' Design Award is granted to marvelous, outstanding, and trendsetting creations that reflect the designer's prodigy and wisdom. They are venerated products and bright ideas that advance art, science, design, and technology, embodying extraordinary excellence and significantly impacting the world with their desirable characteristics. 'Flowers' is indeed a worthy recipient of this esteemed accolade.
