Revitalizing Adria Airways: A Design Triumph

Pit Palmer Branding & Identity's Award-Winning Corporate Identity Redesign

Adria Airways, Slovenia's national carrier, recently underwent a significant corporate identity redesign. The project, led by Pit Palmer Branding & Identity, aimed to modernize the airline's image while preserving its traditional symbols and values. The result is a stunning transformation that has earned international recognition.

The design process involved a careful selection of colors and forms. The primary color, dubbed 'Adria's blue,' was inspired by the Adriatic Sea on a sunny day. This color, along with the use of simple forms and ample space, not only enhances the brand's identity but also reduces production costs. The design team also innovatively extended part of the livery to the front part of the airplane body, above the cockpit, enhancing brand visibility when the plane is at the gate.

The redesigned corporate identity extends beyond the airplanes. It includes uniforms, labels, signs, and corporate communication. The basic symbol, a pointer and arrow, ensures easy brand recognition even when the company name is not visible. This comprehensive approach to the redesign has resulted in a cohesive and modern identity for Adria Airways.

The project, which started in July 2013 and was presented in December 2013, required extensive research. The design team had to honor Adria's business traditions and principles, as well as Slovenia's national values. The leaf of the linden, a valued symbol for both Slovenia and Adria, was carefully incorporated into the new logo, which also features an aircraft and an arrow.

The challenge was to present Adria as a modern and friendly company with a 50-year tradition that it is proud of and continues to uphold. The design team successfully met this challenge, creating a design that reflects both the company's past and its future. This achievement was recognized when the design won the Golden A' Graphics, Illustration and Visual Communication Design Award in 2015.
