Renowned designer Katsumi Tamura has redefined the concept of calendars with his unique "Flowers" design. This three-dimensional calendar is not just a tool for tracking dates but also serves as a decorative piece, adding a touch of nature to any room. The inspiration for this design stems from the universal appeal of flowers, transcending age, gender, and geographical boundaries.
The "Flowers" calendar stands out for its unique properties. It is designed as a vase that houses 12 different flowers, each representing a month of the year. From poppies and tulips to dahlias and roses, each flower brings a seasonal touch to your space. Tamura's design philosophy revolves around the idea that quality designs have the power to transform spaces and minds, offering comfort and an element of surprise.
Produced using high-level printing and manufacturing technologies in Japan, the "Flowers" calendar embodies design excellence. The use of original pure white cardboard and minimal fastening points contribute to its aesthetic appeal. The calendar measures 192mm in height, 76mm in width, and 22mm in depth, making it a compact yet striking addition to any room.
Users interact with the calendar by pulling out a flower from the vase and replacing it with the next month's flower. This simple yet engaging interaction adds a layer of personal involvement, making the passage of time a more tangible and enjoyable experience.
The "Flowers" calendar, launched in July 2014, is a response to the increasing global trend towards natural living. Despite the challenges of crafting sharp edge lines on thick cardboard, Tamura and his team, including designer Takahiro Sugawara and copywriter Toshiyuki Nagamatsu, successfully brought this innovative design to life.
For its remarkable creativity and professional excellence, the "Flowers" calendar was awarded the Silver A' Graphics, Illustration and Visual Communication Design Award in 2015. This prestigious accolade is a testament to Tamura's expertise and innovation in design, further solidifying his reputation in the field.
