In the heart of the Monochromatic Space is a focus on simplicity. The design team aimed to create a space that is simple yet exudes a sense of warmth for the family. The entire ground floor was given an overhaul, adopting an open concept to provide a sense of spaciousness. The use of shades of grey and rectangles in different angles throughout the living room adds visual interest and depth.
One of the standout features of the Monochromatic Space is the flexibility it offers in terms of lighting. The family can choose between cove lights or down lights, allowing them to create different ambiances suitable for any occasion. This attention to detail enhances the overall experience of the space.
The construction of the Monochromatic Space required meticulous attention to detail. Decorative laminates of different textures were used to add depth and visual interest to the overall space. To ensure the precise construction of the angled cabinets, the carpenters created a sample model to guarantee a perfect fit.
The angled cabinet opposite the TV console measures Width: 4030mm x Depth: 540mm x Height: 3000mm. The TV console, together with the attached settee at the side, measures Width: 6479mm x Depth: 500mm x Height: 3089mm.
The Monochromatic Space offers a comfortable and inviting environment for family members to gather and bond. Hidden within the ceiling is a projector screen, accompanied by recessed speakers, providing a space for entertainment and relaxation.
The Monochromatic Space project began in September 2014 and was completed in December 2014 in Singapore. The design concept was driven by the desire for simplicity and a modern yet not overly complicated design. The use of grey as the base color and rectangles as the main shape creates a monochromatic feel, while various textures and lighting techniques add contrast and depth.
The construction of the angled full-height cabinet opposite the TV console presented a significant challenge. Precise calculations of angles had to be determined to accommodate the available hinges and ensure ease of use for the owners. The result is a functional and visually striking design element that adds character to the space.
