The Princess X is a bespoke collection inspired by a client's love story. The client met his wife on a flight to London, and this chance encounter sparked the idea of fate guiding love and life's destinations to intersect. This concept of the 'Cross of Fate' became a key element in the design, making it a landmark of creative jewel engineering in James Ganh's portfolio.
What sets the Princess X apart is its unique properties. Made from 18k gold and adorned with round white diamonds, amethyst, tourmalines, peridots, topaz, yellow and blue sapphires, the piece is a spectacle of color and sparkle. Its signature engineered movement and lock allow it to be worn as a bangle or expanded into a tiara, showcasing its transformable nature.
The creation of the Princess X involved a combination of hand drawing, CAD design, 3D printed wax, and handcrafted finish. The piece weighs 74g and measures 65mmX50mmx45mm, making it a substantial yet wearable piece of art. The design project started in March 2015 in London and was completed in September 2015 in Canton.
Creating the Princess X was not without its challenges. Capturing the essence of the romantic story and the 'Cross of Fate' was an artistic challenge, while making the structure and movement work in a secure way was a technical challenge. After numerous tests and experiments, the team settled on a catch lock as the most functional and durable method of transformation.
Princess X is more than just a piece of jewelry; it's a testament to the power of love and the magic of fate. It's a narrative of two lives intersecting at the crossroads of destiny, captured in a piece of transformable fine jewelry. The design was awarded the Golden A' Jewelry, Eyewear, and Watch Design Award in 2016, a testament to its outstanding design and craftsmanship.
