Grad Studio's Award-Winning Design: World History TV Spot

Unifying Global Cultural Monuments in a Single Space

In an era where technology and design intertwine, Grad Studio's World History TV spot stands as a testament to the power of creativity and innovation. This article delves into the inspiration, unique properties, and realization technology behind this award-winning design.

Grad Studio, a renowned design team, was inspired by the freedom of creativity granted by the Chief Editor of the Russian History channel. The design of popular architectural masterpieces and the patterns of famous jewelers such as Peter Carl Faberge played a significant role in shaping the project. The team was excited to combine the scale of the monuments with the intricate designs of these jewelers.

The World History TV spot is an educational segment where exciting facts from world history are narrated within a minute. The unique feature of this design is the unification of recognizable cultural monuments from different countries in a single space. Monuments such as St. Basil's Cathedral in Moscow, the Eiffel Tower in Paris, the Leaning Tower of Pisa in Italy, and the Akshardham Hindu temple complex in New Delhi were chosen. To add historical associations, a zeppelin and an ancient ship were incorporated into the design.

The realization of this design involved creating a unique visual style and magnificent atmosphere. The combination of precious metal surfaces with cyanic water channels was nuanced by inclusions of additional colors in architectural monuments. The team used 3D Studio MAX for 3D modeling, including the simulation of particles in the air and smoke. Shading and rendering were done in V-Ray, and composing was created in Adobe After Effects. High-polygon modeling of all elements of the design was a priority.

The TV spots were made for people interested in history. The first frame gives the main idea of a clip - connection of historical attractions in united space. The Eiffel Tower on the foreground represents Europe, St. Basil's Cathedral represents Eurasian civilization, and the Akshardham Temple represents Asia. The final visualization is an ancient picture of the world composed of a plane surface located on three elephants that stand on a turtle.

The project, which started in May 2015 in Moscow and finished in June 2015, faced the challenge of a tight deadline. However, the dedication of the Grad Studio team and the use of contemporary workstations and software like 3D Studio Max and After Effects enabled the project's completion on time. The cooperation of a Producer, Art-director, CG-supervisor, Creative Director, and clear management structure played a crucial role in the project's success.

In conclusion, Grad Studio's World History TV spot is a testament to the power of design and technology in creating engaging and educational content. The project's success, as evidenced by its Golden A' Movie, Video and Animation Design Award in 2016, underscores the importance of creativity, innovation, and teamwork in the design industry.
