The inspiration for this design came from the need to meet the customer's requirements after the initial plan suggested by the developer fell short. The walls were altered to create a more efficient use of space, and the arrangement of the rooms was dictated by the supporting structures. The use of panoramic glazing allows for ample natural light to flow through the apartment, defining the common combined room while still allowing for privacy in the bedroom.
What sets this design apart is its dynamic walls, which not only serve a decorative purpose but also play a functional role in maximizing room space ergonomics. The semi-circular wall mounting the TV unit, for example, has a convex part on the living room side, while serving as a work table on the bedroom side. This clever use of space ensures that every corner of the apartment is utilized effectively.
The realization of this design involved the use of a frame with plasterboard sheets for the walls and ceiling. The yellow wall finishing was done with paint, while the 3D insert with a parametric pattern is made of Paris plaster. The black streamlined wall with convex and concave elements is finished with decorative relief stucco. The bed construction is made of artificial stone, and the mattress that morphs into the headboard is made of high-elastic polyurethane foam. The matte surface on the ceiling and doors is made of aluminum.
This studio apartment measures 70 square meters and is located in Ukraine, Kharkiv. The project was completed in 2016, and its unique design features make it a standout in the field of interior design. The use of dynamic walls, functional furniture, and clever space optimization techniques make this studio apartment a true testament to the creativity and innovation of Alex Bazyl.
With its dynamic interior, kinetic design elements, and functional walls, this studio apartment offers a unique and stylish living space for those who appreciate modern design. The use of yellow accents and a blue bedroom adds a vibrant touch to the overall aesthetic, while the parametric forms and mobile kitchen provide both functionality and visual interest.
This design has been recognized for its excellence and creativity, receiving the Bronze A' Design Award in 2017. This prestigious award is bestowed upon designs that exhibit strong technical and creative skills, contributing to quality of life improvements and making the world a better place.
