The Eslite Spectrum project, which spanned from July 2012 to November 2015, is situated near Suzhou’s Jinji Lake, a jewel in the crown of the city's new cultured business district. The design team, led by Chris Teng, Portia Hu, Kang Chiu, Kelly Du, Tina Yu, and Irene Hsu, envisioned a space that would serve as an oasis of serenity amidst the city's hustle and bustle. The result is a lifestyle Mecca, complete with a 72-step grand staircase, a bookstore, a performance hall, and various other attractions.

The design of Eslite Spectrum is characterized by its simplicity and tranquility. The clean, simple lines and spatial intersections create a space that encourages exploration and spiritual purification. The 72-step grand staircase, which visitors must traverse, is a key feature of the design. As the day progresses, the shadows cast by the lattices on the fair-faced concrete walls change, turning the walls into moving art canvases.

The design team faced several challenges during the project, including strict fire-fighting regulations in Suzhou. The facade windows required additional twin-rail fire shutters, and the materials used had to meet high fire-resistance requirements. Despite these challenges, the team was able to create a calming atmosphere using minimal elements, such as stone stairs, wooden lattices, and concrete walls.
