90 Deg is a bag with two types: a bag for everyday use and a chair for temporary seating. The inspiration for this design came from the need for rest when people feel tired from walking or waiting in line. The transformation from bag to chair is simple and quick, requiring only a 90-degree turn. This user-friendly operation is a result of the design of the structure of the holder.
The bag primarily consists of two parts: the holder and the bag parts. The holder is made from laminated bamboo, a material known for its strength and durability. The shape of the holder is created using Computer Numerical Control (CNC) manufacturing, ensuring precision and quality. This strong structure allows the bag to withstand the weight of a sitting user.
Aside from being a portable chair and an everyday bag, 90 Deg can also be a fashion accessory. Users can change the style and color of the bag parts to create a unique stylish bag that suits their personal style. The seat height of 45 centimeters matches ergonomics, providing a comfortable and relaxing sitting experience.
The project started in October 2016 and was completed in March 2017 in Taiwan. The main challenge was to design a structure that could accommodate a user's weight within the size of a handbag while maintaining user-friendly operation. The middle reinforcement of the holder was hollowed out to lighten the weight of the bag and still withstand the weight of users.
Another challenge was to create a design that allowed easy disassembly and assembly of the bag parts. The middle reinforcement not only helps to withstand the user's weight but also fixes the middle layer of the bag parts with zippers. The right and left bags use open-end zippers to fix to the middle layer, allowing users to easily assemble their favorite style and detach the parts for cleaning and replacement.
90 Deg's innovative design has earned it the Golden A' Design Award, a prestigious accolade granted to outstanding and trendsetting creations. This award recognizes the designer's wisdom and creativity, as well as the design's significant impact on the world with its desirable characteristics.
