Shift: A Design Revolution in Event Promotion

Unfolding Creativity: The Story of Thailand's Biggest Design Symposium

Shift is the title of Creativities Unfold 2015, Thailand's largest annual creative symposium and design event. The design team at Pink Blue Black & Orange took inspiration from the changing dynamics of our society where digital technology has a significant role. They compared doing business to growing plants, emphasizing the need for mindfulness, attentiveness, and flexibility. This perspective led them to use plants as the key visual element of the event, with each stem, branch, flower, and fruit differing in form, texture, and material.

The design process was a shift in itself, involving collaborations with various creative firms. Each partner contributed a part to the project, including a psychology quiz game, a video, and a photo booth. The team also collaborated with designers from diverse industries to create a series of logos, envisioning possibilities and opportunities for entrepreneurs.

Shift's unique properties lie in its interactive design. The team developed a software that generates an infographic visual of a tree based on participant answers from a Facebook Quiz. The tree branches out with different stems, leaves, and flowers based on the received data. A customized thermal printer prints three random images to create a networking game for the exhibit-goers. The photobooth was user-friendly, running automatically using only a QR Code on the exhibit-goers ticket.

The project, which spanned from March to September 2015, aimed to be inclusive, inviting not just designers or people in the creative industry, but everyone to be part of it. The number of video views increased a thousand times from the previous year, indicating the project's success. The challenge was to digest complex symposium content and visualize it in an accessible way that resonates with audiences and raises their awareness.

Shift is a testament to the power of design and innovation. It is a unique blend of art, technology, and creativity that has set a new standard in event promotion. The design team's ability to intertwine the symposium's content with their design process, input, and output is truly remarkable. Their inspiration from the concept of adaptability is a powerful reminder of the need to 'shift' to survive in our ever-changing world.
