Geolocation Coffee Packaging: A Blend of Design and Geography

Vsevolod Abramov, a renowned designer, has created a unique packaging design for coffee beans. Inspired by the breathtaking beauty of our planet from a height, Abramov has created a package that not only serves its primary function but also encourages reflection on the environment and our shared home.

The packaging design, named 'Coffee Bean Here', is unique in its approach. It showcases the exact location where the coffee beans in the package were born, creating a connection between the consumer and the product's origin. The name itself carries a double entendre - it can be read as 'coffee has been here' or 'coffee bean is here'.

The design utilizes a metallized doypack, a type of plastic bag with a bottom, which is ideal for coffee packaging. It is a widely recognized and easily replicable form of packaging. The dimensions of the doypack are 135 mm in width, 45 mm in depth, and 225 mm in height.

The design project, which was completed in January 2018, required extensive research on the coffee beans market. The team concluded that most packages in their price segment did not adequately highlight the natural origin of the product. The decision was made to emphasize the naturalness of the coffee beans through the packaging design.

The biggest creative challenge faced by Abramov was to link all meanings into one graphic concept. The geolocation label, a modern and comprehensible symbol, served as the key to the packaging design. The design also includes a graphic game, using geographic areas on the packaging, which turns into a pattern. The brand name, using a geotag, further emphasizes the idea.

This innovative design has been recognized with the prestigious Silver A' Packaging Design Award in 2019. The award is given to top-of-the-line, creative, and professionally remarkable designs that illustrate outstanding expertise and innovation. Abramov's design, admired for its strong technical characteristics and splendid artistic skill, showcases a remarkable level of excellence and introduces positive feelings, amazement, and wonder.
