Revolutionizing Public Spaces: The Ax-Sharing Project

Qingliang Xu - Masanori Designs Transforms a Corporate Space into a Natural, Artistic Haven

In an era where urban development often overlooks the importance of natural elements, Qingliang Xu - Masanori Designs has created a multi-functional public space that seamlessly blends the indoors with the outdoors. The Ax-Sharing project, located in the AX headquarters in China, is a testament to the transformative power of design and its ability to foster a sense of community and environmental consciousness.

The Ax-Sharing project was inspired by the concept of freedom and the diversity of houses. The designers aimed to transform the public space of AX enterprise into a shared place that is environmental, natural, and artistic. They incorporated natural elements such as wind, light, and scenery into the space, abandoning artificial temperature control and daylight. The result is a space where occupants can experience the natural change of seasons guided by the wind direction.

One of the unique features of this design is its permeability. The designers used water, wood, and flowers as a backdrop, breaking the barrier between indoor and outdoor spaces. The design also meets the public function requirements of a T-stage, exhibition, and publication, with reasonable lines allowing the space to be shared. The transformation and extension of the original architectural structure make the space more sculptural, imbuing it with a sense of art.

The Ax-Sharing project was realized using materials such as cement paint, Croatian grey marble, outdoor wood flooring, and aluminum honeycomb composite stainless steel plate. The design covers an area of 2000 square meters, making it a sizable public space for various activities. The project started in August 2016 and was completed in January 2018 in the Nanhai District, Foshan City, Guangdong Province, China.

The project was guided by extensive research into creating a shared space that is environmental, natural, and artistic. The designers aimed to place natural elements into the space, abandon artificial temperature equipment and daylight, and allow occupants to feel the natural change of seasons by the wind direction. The result is a space that is not only functional but also deeply connected to nature.

The Ax-Sharing project has been recognized for its innovative design and commitment to environmental consciousness. It was awarded Silver in the A' Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design Award in 2019. This prestigious award is given to top-of-the-line, creative, and professionally remarkable designs that demonstrate outstanding expertise and innovation. The award is a testament to the project's strong technical characteristics, splendid artistic skill, and remarkable level of excellence.
