Eastern Calligraphy: A Fusion of Art and Public Space

Li-Ling Chang's Award-Winning Design Inspired by Eastern Calligraphy

In the heart of Taichung City, Taiwan, a unique public space, designed by Li-Ling Chang, stands as a testament to the elegant quality of modern eastern humanity. This design, aptly named "Eastern Calligraphy," is a seamless blend of art, architecture, and culture, reflecting the fluent vitality of eastern calligraphy in its every corner.

The design idea is based on the elegant quality of modern eastern humanity, smoothly reflecting the fluent vitality of eastern calligraphy. The dim ceiling lights traversing in the dark space feature the poised ambiance, the sleek surfaces integrating the entire space resemble the intensity of writing strokes, and the white, grey, and black marbles ornamented on the floors and walls highlight the space characteristics. The design is a testament to the designer's ability to transform regular rules and forms into a space that carries the quintessential spirits of eastern calligraphy and embodies contemporary artistry.

Li-Ling Chang's design stands out for its unique properties. Beyond the regular rules and forms, the house decorations carrying the quintessential spirits of eastern calligraphy impeccably embody the contemporary artistry in the common area. The classy reception counter, where the sunlight glosses, is adorned with the exquisite floor curtains and woods that cordially correspond to the fine textures of marbles, the amicable synthesis of hardness and softness as gorgeous as the conformed state of eastern calligraphy.

The design realization technology is another aspect that sets this design apart. The white floors and ceiling, ornamented with circular lightings, manifest the magnificent momentum as fluently as running hand. The area is 3310 square meters, a testament to the designer's ability to create a large, open space that still feels intimate and inviting.

One of the key challenges in this design was the interim spaces connecting areas constructed in neat lines reveal the upright forms of regular scripts. The lights vaguely sprinkling from the ceiling artistically parallel the rice papers that delicately disseminate the warm, affable, and tranquil qualities of humanity. However, Li-Ling Chang was able to overcome these challenges and create a design that is both functional and aesthetically pleasing.

The design was awarded Silver in A' Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design Award in 2019. Silver A' Design Award is rewarded to top-of-the-line, creative, and professionally remarkable designs that illustrate outstanding expertise and innovation. These designs, admired for their strong technical characteristics and splendid artistic skill, showcase a remarkable level of excellence and introduce positive feelings, amazement, and wonder.

Eastern Calligraphy is a shining example of how design can be used to reflect and celebrate culture. Through her innovative use of space, materials, and light, Li-Ling Chang has created a design that is not only beautiful but also deeply meaningful.
