Reggae music has been a powerful force, resonating far and wide with its soulful melodies and powerful messages. It carries the aspirations of a new generation determined to stand on its own two feet and be counted. Inspired by this iconic music genre, designer Yu Chen has created a series of posters that pay homage to the great Jamaican reggae music.

This poster series captures the essence of reggae music, showcasing its distinctive colors and elements. Reggae music is not just a style; it is a soul. Through these posters, Yu Chen aims to convey the most authentic reggae attitude and introduce more people to this incredible music genre.

The series explores various dimensions of reggae music, highlighting its appeal for peace, the influence of reggae godfather Bob Marley and his iconic songs, the unique style of reggae music, and the vibrant colors that represent the genre. Each poster is a visual representation of the spirit and impact of reggae music.

Measuring 70cm x 50cm, these posters are designed for outdoor display and network communication. When people encounter these posters, they are reminded of the unique style of reggae music and are encouraged to revisit the classics that have shaped the genre.

The project, led by Yu Chen, began in January 2018 in Wuhan and was completed in April 2018. The design process involved extensive research, including interviews with reggae musicians and fans. By capturing their essential reggae attitudes and translating them into visual form, the posters truly embody the spirit of reggae music.

One of the challenges faced during the design process was to distill the essence of reggae music while removing extraneous elements. With the guidance of reggae musicians, the team successfully focused on the most authentic elements of reggae, resulting in a visually impactful series of posters.

Reggae music has earned a well-deserved reputation worldwide for its unique style and soulful melodies. Through the classic elements of reggae music and its representative colors of red, yellow, and green, Yu Chen's poster series showcases the distinct style and impact of reggae music. These posters serve as a tribute to the genre and an invitation for more people to discover and appreciate the beauty of reggae music.

All visual content in this design is credited to Yu Chen, who holds the copyrights for the images. The design itself was awarded the Iron A' Design Award in 2019 in the Graphics, Illustration, and Visual Communication Design category. This prestigious award recognizes designs that are well-designed, practical, and innovative, meeting professional and industrial requirements. The poster series is respected for its integration of industry best practices and competent technical characteristics, providing fulfillment and positive feelings while contributing to a better world.
