Convolo, meaning 'fly together with others', is inspired by the idea of gathering. The design takes advantage of the eco-friendly environment, creating a space where sunlight distinctly shines through tree branches, echoing the special moments when people come together. However, it also reflects the parting between people, like the scene of sunrise rising alongside the mountains.
The resort, with its tropical elegance, seems to grow from the emerald mound. It is more than a pool but an entirely new sector that coexists peacefully with the natural landscape. The concrete and lawn give the terrace a clean-cut parallel, bringing up the concept of separation from Convolo. The surrounding landscape and material perpendicular structure reflect the gathering in Convolo.
The pavilion combines the spatial purity of modernism, exemplified by stark cubist volumes, with a tropical aesthetic of timber salts facade, black painted walls, and a polished concrete platform. The selection of earth-toned colors, materials, and textures, blending with hidden gardens and various types of plants, evocatively reflects the surrounding nature.
The project spans 450 square meters and is finished with polished concrete platforms and in-built furniture. Imagine swimming in the infinity pool, drinking in the natural forest and cerulean ocean. While enjoying tea at the outdoor sofa, you are swayed with ferns planted behind the seats while the breeze blows. The berms with plants have turned into natural slopes, then transformed into an incredible terrace field.
Despite the challenges posed by Taiwan’s extreme weather, which often causes sudden strong winds reaching 80 mph during the typhoon season, the team managed to maintain structural stability. The result is a spot where guests can gather together, enjoying a wonderful break time and a panoramic view of the ocean. The lush grasses, dense shrubs, and colorful flowers, planted to withstand the windy environment, sprawl the scent of freedom. This place is like an oasis in the desert, with birdsong and sunshine spreading a sense of peace.
Convolo was awarded Silver in A' Landscape Planning and Garden Design Award in 2019, a testament to its outstanding expertise and innovation. It is a remarkable example of how design can harmonize the shape and lines of nature with space, creating a vital place connecting with nature, human interaction, and sustainable development.
