The Chained project, designed by Noelle Ulian de Freitas, is a mask that combines functionality, style, and comfort. Made with a double layer of antiviral fabric, the mask follows pandemic rules while offering versatility and protection. It features a unique design with a hand-drawn jawline, human teeth, and a chequered pattern in black synthetic leather on the right side. On the left side, there are two strips of nickel silver chain, and another strip of chain goes around the back of the mask. The two strings that go over the ears to hold the mask are made of chenille.
Measuring 700 mm in width (350 mm when bent), 5 mm in depth, and 160 mm in height, the Chained mask weighs 50g. It is not only functional but also stylish and comfortable to wear.
The Chained mask can be worn on the face, with the strings going over each ear. It can also be worn hanging around the neck when the person is in a place where it can be temporarily removed, such as a restaurant or when drinking something. The mask protects against viruses in general, with a specific focus on COVID-19. It is suitable for anyone who feels the need to wear a mask or feels uncomfortable in their environment.
The Chained project was developed between November 2020 and February 2021 in Florianópolis, Brazil. It was inspired by the pandemic and aims to provide a fashionable solution to the new day-to-day looks. The design incorporates elements from the underground life of London and the creations of Balenciaga, resulting in a unique and eye-catching piece.
The Chained mask has received recognition in the design community, winning the Iron A' Design Award in the Limited Edition and Custom Design category in 2021. This award is given to well-designed, practical, and innovative creations that meet professional and industrial requirements. The Chained mask stands out for its integration of industry best practices, competent technical characteristics, and its contribution to a better world.
With its boldness, comfort, and exclusive design, the Chained mask by Noelle Ulian de Freitas is a testament to the creativity and innovation that can arise from challenging times.
