Reviving a Classic: The Grundig Heinzelmann Limited Edition

Digital Panorama Breathes New Life into a Legendary Design

In a world where technology evolves at a rapid pace, Digital Panorama takes a step back to revisit a classic. The Grundig Heinzelmann Limited Edition, a reimagining of the iconic 1946 tubeless radio, blends the charm of the past with the innovation of the present.

Grundig, a German company founded in 1945, achieved global recognition with its radios and televisions. In the aftermath of the Second World War, radio production was heavily regulated by the allies. Spotting an opportunity, radio dealer Max Grundig created the Heinzelmann, a tubeless radio that wasn't officially a radio. This ingenious design has now been brought back to life by Digital Panorama, a testament to the enduring appeal of Grundig's products.

The inspiration for the Grundig Heinzelmann Limited Edition came from the original wooden box design. Digital Panorama envisioned a world where wood and metal coexist harmoniously, without losing sight of the Grundig brand's roots. The result is a unique product that pays homage to its predecessor while showcasing modern design elements.

The creation of the Grundig Heinzelmann Limited Edition was a technological feat. The entire design was modelled and animated in 3D space using Maxon’s Cinema 4D software, with compositing done in Adobe After Effects. The final product is a 60-second Full HD animation, ready to be showcased on various social media platforms and Grundig's website.

Despite the challenges of creating a convincing and entertaining animation that supports Grundig's motto, "Embracing change is good if you remain true to yourself", Digital Panorama succeeded in crafting a timeless, retro yet modern ambiance. The use of wooden and brushed metallic materials added a touch of realism, while the dramatic music complemented the overall mood of the animation.

The Grundig Heinzelmann Limited Edition has been recognized for its design excellence, winning the Platinum A' Movie, Video and Animation Design Award in 2021. This award acknowledges world-class, exceptional, and highly innovative designs that contribute to societal wellbeing. The Grundig Heinzelmann Limited Edition is more than just a product; it's a symbol of how the past can inspire the future.
