X5 Charity Foundation: A Multipurpose Space for Connection and Giving Back

Office and Exhibition Space Designed by Tai + Associates and Tai Chen

This project is a compound space for the X5 Charity Foundation, designed by Tai + Associates and Tai Chen. Inspired by the main purpose of this space, which is to provide a place for people to connect, the designers have incorporated the letter "X" throughout the entire space, from the entrance hall to the ceiling.

The X5 Charity Foundation is a space that focuses on social responsibility and giving back to the community. It aims to help families with medical needs and provide support to those in need. The design of the space reflects this mission, with the first floor housing the office area and a studio for podcast recording and Youtube filming. In the basement, there is a hidden lounge and wine cellar, creating a space for relaxation and reflection.

One of the standout features of the X5 Charity Foundation is the outdoor balcony area, which includes a contemporary water sink built from a combination of wood and stone. In Feng Shui, running water is a symbol of fortune, and this element adds a touch of positivity and prosperity to the space.

The design team has used the letter "X" as a central theme throughout the space. The metal "X" shapes extend from the front outdoor area to the indoor space, and from the first-floor ceiling, they fold into a staircase that leads visitors to the basement area. This design element not only connects different spaces but also symbolizes the multiplying effect of the X5 Charity Foundation's impact.

The use of lighting techniques combined with metal fabrics enhances the overall aesthetic of the space. The metal "X" shapes, with their unique 60-degree angle, cut through the warm wood and blend seamlessly with the solidity of the stone materials. This combination of materials and shapes creates a sense of harmony and balance in the design.

The X5 Charity Foundation project required careful attention to detail and a focus on creating a space that meets diverse needs. The challenge of making each area unique yet connected was overcome through the use of transparency and the careful selection of materials. The result is a space that is not only visually stunning but also functional and versatile.

Since its completion in February 2021, the X5 Charity Foundation has received positive feedback from its members. The space has successfully transformed an old building into a contemporary space that embodies the values and mission of the foundation.

The X5 Charity Foundation project is a testament to the power of design to create spaces that inspire, connect, and give back to the community. It is a space that combines art, architecture, design, and innovation to create a unique and impactful environment.
