The Siin Beirut bracelet stands out with its distinctive charms, which are a combination of Arabic characters and arches, representing the local and cultural architectural elements of Beirut. The bracelet features five letters of the alphabet, spelling out the word "Beirut," allowing wearers to mix and match the letters to create different words and personalize their experience.
What sets this bracelet apart is the meticulous attention to detail in its design and realization. The letters are based on the Square Kufic calligraphy of the 12th century, known for its straight lines, right angles, and equal spacing. Each charm on the bracelet follows a regular grid system, with a width of 2.5 units and a height of 5.5 units. The diacritic dot is represented by a turquoise stone, adding a touch of color and elegance to the design. The arches, a prominent feature of Beirut's traditional architecture, are laser-engraved on top, paying homage to the city's unique heritage.
The Siin Beirut bracelet goes beyond being a mere accessory; it creates an emotional link between the wearer and the city. Each charm resonates with memories of places visited and their written language, allowing individuals to carry a piece of Beirut with them wherever they go. It serves as a tribute to the city, particularly after the devastating explosion on August 4, 2020, symbolizing the resilience and strength of its people.
This project, initiated in September 2020 and completed in April 2021, was a labor of love by designer Samara Diab. The research behind the design focused on the historical and cultural background of Beirut, aiming to revive and hold dear the city's precious memories through charm designs. The challenge of fitting all the Arabic alphabet charms into the same grid was overcome through precise measurements and calculations, resulting in a harmonious and visually appealing design.
The Siin Beirut bracelet has been recognized for its exceptional design and innovation, receiving the prestigious Iron A' Design Award in the Jewelry, Eyewear, and Watch Design category in 2022. This award acknowledges the bracelet's well-designed, practical, and innovative characteristics that meet professional and industrial requirements. It is a testament to the bracelet's ability to provide fulfillment and evoke positive emotions, contributing to a better world.
Siin Beirut is not just a piece of jewelry; it is a symbol of cultural heritage, a tribute to a resilient city, and a personal connection to cherished memories. With its unique design and meaningful concept, this bracelet is a must-have for anyone who appreciates art, architecture, and the beauty of cultural expression.
