Beijing Happy Valley: A Harmonious Blend of Styles

Wu Yao's Award-Winning Illustration Series Redefines Traditional Fairy Tales

The Beijing Happy Valley project is a series of illustrations that combine elements of the new national style, pop style, and other styles. The project is a visual subversion and reshaping of the traditional Qitian Great Sage and Nezha Naohai, two classic fairy tales. The challenge was to incorporate a multitude of elements into a single visual system in a reasonable and harmonious way. Despite the complexity, the team made several successful attempts, resulting in a design that is unique and impactful.

The project's unique properties lie in its innovative approach to illustration design. Three different pictures are presented in one, linked together to form a harmonious whole. The overall color of the picture is well-balanced, ensuring that each element has its own characteristics while contributing to the overall integrity of the design.

The design was realized through the collaborative efforts of a talented team, including original designer Yao Wu, illustration designers Yuchen Zhang and Boxing Xie, and graphic designers Ziyang Zheng, Huafeng Shi, and Zhen Tan. The team's collective expertise and creativity played a crucial role in the successful realization of this project.

The project was initiated in Beijing in August 2022 and completed in October 2022. The designers integrated the world's top technical means and equipment to create an all-round and immersive audio-visual feast for the audience, providing a wonderful experience of fantasy and magic in Beijing Happy Valley.
